Thank you, Phil — and happy retirement
I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to Phil Edwards for his many years of service to our town.
Phil has been a quiet powerhouse behind the scenes—running both the market and the public toilets with a steady hand and a huge sense of responsibility. These are the kinds of jobs that don’t always get the spotlight, but they keep the town moving and make life better for everyone who lives here and everyone who visits.
Every year, Phil has also poured time and care into the Christmas lights. It’s hard to overstate the joy those lights bring—families coming into town on dark evenings, kids pointing up with excitement, that shared feeling that the season has arrived. Phil helped make that magic, year after year.
As we get ready for the upcoming town celebrations, it feels especially right to acknowledge everything Phil has done. The reliability, the graft, the generosity—so much of what we’re proud of as a town has Phil’s fingerprints on it.
Phil has decided to step down, and while we’ll miss him hugely, I want to wish him a very happy and well‑earned retirement. Thank you, Phil, for all you’ve given to this community. I hope we’ll get the chance to celebrate you properly at the festivities. You’ve made a real difference here.
