Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in Ebbw Vale South
Residents in Ebbw Vale South have recently raised concerns about a worrying increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB). Reports of vandalism — including tyres being slashed and windows deliberately smashed — have left many neighbours feeling unsettled and anxious about their safety.
I have already written to Gwent Police and BGCBC Community Safety, urging them to prioritise action in the area. Requests include:
Increased patrols and a stronger visible police presence
Direct engagement with affected households to provide reassurance
Preventative measures and community initiatives to deter further ASB
While these calls for action are crucial, it’s equally important for residents to feel empowered and know what steps they can take in the meantime.
✅ What Tenants and Residents Can Do
Report incidents promptly
Always log criminal damage or ASB through 101 (non-emergency line) or 999 in emergencies.
You can also report anonymously through Crimestoppers (0800 555 111) if you prefer.
The more reports logged, the stronger the case for increased police presence.
Stay alert & connected
Share information with neighbours — knowing who else has been affected builds a stronger case.
Join or set up a Neighbourhood Watch group to monitor and deter suspicious behaviour.
Protect your property
Consider installing CCTV doorbells, motion sensor lights, or simple deterrents like window alarms.
Ensure communal doors and gates are kept secure, especially in shared housing blocks.
Engage with your landlord or housing association
Report any damage immediately. Landlords/housing providers often have dedicated ASB officers who will liaise with the police.
They may also be able to apply tenancy sanctions against persistent perpetrators if they are residents.
Look after wellbeing
Experiencing or witnessing ASB can be incredibly stressful. Don’t hesitate to access support services such as Victim Support (0808 168 9111).
📢 A United Response Matters
Anti-social behaviour affects everyone, but when residents, the council, landlords, and the police work together, solutions come faster. Visible reporting, community vigilance, and coordinated support can help restore safety and peace of mind to Ebbw Vale South.
If you’ve been affected, please don’t stay silent. Reporting concerns directly helps build the evidence needed for long-term action.
